The Honorable Catherine M. Young, State Senator has proclaimed October and November of 2007 as Big Read Months.

Dunkirk Happenings


The Dunkirk Big Read Kickoff on Saturday, October 6th was a spicy affair, with 451 hot chicken wings, a hot car and banned books. What a fine October day. Ex Libris enjoyed the sunny day with library staff and patrons.

Kiersten Hansen, staff member of Prendergast Library’s Children’s Room, shows 2-year-old Isaac Wenger, the son of Carolyn and Mark Wenger, a book about fire trucks while he wears a paper fireman’s hat at the library. The Children’s Room held a a fire-themed story hour at 6:30 p.m. as part of the Big Read kickoff events.

Welcome to Scorch Marks the official Blog of the Chautauqua Cattaraugus Big Read of Ray Bradbury's Fahrenheit 451. Our Big Read is in full swing. To date we have distributed books to all member libraries, scheduled events throughout the region and held Kickoff events in Jamestown and Dunkirk.
